Who Do You Say I Am?

Jesus asked his disciples, "Who do people say I am?" Then he asked, "Who do you say I am?" Who is Jesus to you?

Our life experiences give us a picture of who we think Jesus is. To me, Jesus was portrayed by the people around me as a strict disciplinarian who was watching my every move to see if I messed up. I felt like they were implying Jesus wouldn't love or accept me unless I never messed up.

But, that was not my personal experience with Jesus. Jesus seemed to be the only one who loved me and accepted me all the time, even when I messed up or when others were not there for me. My experience with Jesus was different. I felt love and forgiveness and acceptance.

Because of my experiences with Jesus, I want others to know how much Jesus can love them. His love is far greater than anything a human can give. This is the story of Jesus I want to share with others.

That is how I see Jesus. How do you see Jesus? What is your personal experience with him? (Not what others have told you, although that does have an influence on us.) Is Jesus someone that brings you comfort, peace, joy, conviction...? I experience the many aspects of Jesus, but his unconditional love is what has had the biggest impact on me.

Whatever your personal experience is with Jesus, share your Jesus story. Let others know who Jesus is to you.

Cowan Fellowship Church is a joint congregation of United Methodists and Presbyterians.  The church was founded in 1962 when the Cowan Methodist and Cowan Presbyterian Churches united.  Situated between "the mountain" - Sewanee, the University of the South and Monteagle - and the rest of Franklin County to the west, the church has always found its mission as a junction between "mountain and valley."
